So many people mistake resistance training and the term, Resistance Training. Good

question. Resistance Training is using any form of resistance to conduct a workout.
This could be with a variety of tools and really, itʼs up to you and your imagination.
From free weights and machines to tubing, medicine balls, body weight, water, pots and
pans, rocks, logs, bars, hammers…. You name it!!
Thatʼs why we do not have big heavy machinery at our studio. Everything we do when
training at Healthy Rhino is designed to show you how you can literally workout and
train yourself, anywhere and anytime.
This is great for a few reasons. a) you can cut down on personal training costs once
you know what you are doing and if you are willing to motivate and push yourself. b)
this allows you the freedom of training on a schedule that works perfectly for you and c)
you can bring functional training in to your workout which is working your body exactly
the way it was intended to work.
We like tubing, body weight, balls and kettle-bells the best. Tubing is cool because you
can move in to where your tubing is anchored to make it easier and move away to make
it harder. To learn how to anchor tubing, you can check out our video but really, as long
as that tubing is held in one place so that you can pull on it without it snapping back at
you, you can get started! So hook it to a hook in your wall, wrap it under the couch or
around a stair railing, step on it…. go crazy!
To really simplify the concept of resistance training for you, I will simply say, that if you
increase a load on your body, for example: putting a weight in your hand (again, you are
free to use rocks, logs, pots, etc) and push it up in to the air, you are now doing a
shoulder press. Because we have put a load on your shoulder you can now expect an
increase in strength and muscle size or definition!!
So, put together a workout using resistance training (understanding how to put the
program together for your goals) and you will start to reach them!
