Attacking Myths and Weight Loss and Body Building Misnomers

This is a CRAZY subject!  So many people are still lost in translation from what to do to lose weight, to build muscle to burn fat, to tone their body!  Let me break through some of the most common mistakes made when trying to reach your goals!

First and foremost, my personal favorite: “My body needs a day of rest”.  Yes, you are right, in order to build quality muscle, your body needs to repair the “damage” you have done by ripping and tearing muscle fibers when you workout.  Here’s the problem, most of you simply DO NOT work hard enough to justify the rest and recovery period!  This practice comes from the old Arnold days.  Back when Bodybuilders would train for 4 hours a day!  OF COURSE they needed rest!  Start by working out as hard as you can and doing the right workout for your goals!  We train like this because we want the best results, fastest.

Running.  OK, by now you should all know that you only run if YOU LIKE TO RUN.  Running actually promotes the body to store calories (as fat) to bank energy for future runs.  If you are running because you want the cardio, you are missing the cardio in your workout!  Ensure you are breathing very heavy when you are training and you are getting your cardio!  Plus, if you are like the rest of us and it’s hard to “fit it all in”, you might like the time saver of burning your fat while working your muscles!

This brings me to my next point.  (I apologize if in your relationship, you are the one who gets excited and your partner is holding you back). Why do (woman mainly) run to lose weight?  If you don’t like it anyway, you are just putting yourself in to an unsustainable program!  Food for thought:  Have more sex.  Sex is the best total body workout.  It conditions you.  It tones you.  You burn fat.  You work hard at it.  If I could sell it for results, I WOULD!  It amazes me with woman in particular, how they’ll go for a run and do what they have to to lose weight but then do not want to have sex.  You could get your running shoes out and drag your feet and probably still won’t enjoy it.  At least with sex, once you get yourself in to it, you’re gonna enjoy it and since it’s the best workout, you will get the best of both worlds!

I hate my ass so I will “target” it! Good luck.  If your body is predisposed to store fat on your ass, you will have fat on your ass until the end of your transformation.  YES we want to put muscle on your body because muscular bodies burn more calories than fat bodies but, just because you do the newest, latest and greatest butt exercise doesn’t mean you’ll burn the fat off of exactly where you want to!  You need to work your entire body.  You need to eat a healthy weight loss diet plan and that is CUSTOM FOR YOU and YOUR goals. Fat will come off of your whole body and you’ll shape your whole body.  Don’t worry, soon enough, you’ll shape your ass too and be very happy.

Sit Ups.  These don’t do anything.  If you want a six pack, you need to rotate through your abs and core.  Look at the stomach of a diver!  They rotate through their core, extremely fast and wow! Their abs show it!  A sit up actually works your lower back and hip flexors more than your abs!

I want big arms! Guys, wake up! Why are you doing all those bicep curls if you want big guns?? The best arm exercises are going to be triceps exercises! Why… Quite simply, their is more triceps than biceps on those things!  Triceps make up 2/3 of your arm kids!  And while we are talking about arms… When you are doing your chest exercises or your back exercises, use your chest or your back! Arms should be like little T-Rex arms!  They are supportive but they don’t do the work; only follow through!

I didn’t workout today but I went for a walk.  At least I did something.  Yes you did something… “nothing”!  Of course it’s better to get off the couch.  Yes it’s better to move but come on.  How many calories did you burn on that walk?  Did you shape your body with that intense workout?  Even if you have a workout that is 70% of your usual max output, if that was the best you could do, then today, you “at least did something”

It amazes me that people are still stuck on, “no carbs after 6”.  Really??  Come on guys!  Let me break it down for you: 99% of the population requires carbs.  NO carb diets are bullsh*t for most people!  The nitrogen component of your protein rebuilds your muscle kids.  The carbs fuel the process!  So, if you workout hard, you need to fuel the process.  This means that EVERY meal should contain a protein source and a carb source if you want your dream body!

FRUIT.  OK, hear me out before you freak out.  Yes I understand that fruit has valuable nutritional value.  All I am suggesting is, if you want to lose weight, sugar is sugar.  If you eat fruit, you are not only consuming the good vitamins and nutrients you were after, you are also consuming BAD Carbs.  SUGER is SUGAR.  Take a great multi-vitamin and lose the sugar and you will reach your weight loss goals fastest.

Salt vs. Sodium.  All right all you know-it-alls.  SALT = BAD.  SODUM = GOOD.  I am not hear to argue with you.  I don’t care what you have read.  I don’t care how much you know.  Simple chemistry folks.  Salt is sodium chloride and makes you store/hold water = BAD.  Sodium is sodium and in excess, your body pees it out.  Water molecules are attracted to sodium molecules so when you pee out the excess sodium, you pee out water = GOOD.

Nutrition plans, fad diets household names like Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Herbal Magic.  OK guys, if it is not CUSTOM, then it isn’t perfect for you.  If your plan is basically someone else’s, then you are using a one size fits all plan.  That won’t work long term.

FAD Diets and the crap you say about them.  HEY! They are not all bad.  Did you know that the Atkins diet wasn’t all that bad?? It was never a NO carb diet.  Did you read the book?  You were supposed to introduce carbs.  Most people don’t follow the “real” plan or they “bastardize” it.  A man I respect very much once told me, when people heard that pickles were free, they went on the dill pickle diet.  COME ON PEOPLE!

Moderation.  I can have some “in moderation”.  HORSESH*T.  If you want to reach your goals, you will not EVER if you are having a little chocolate in moderation.  Learn to balance your food.  If I have x, I need to make sure that I increase y and make my next (x) meal(s) balanced.  This will keep you on track and keep you reaching or maintaining your goals.

I’ll leave it alone for now… I’m sure you have more to do today and I could go on and on!

Don’t get lost in translation guys.  Most of this stuff is now becoming more known.  In addition, try to remember it this way, just because everyone else is doing it, doesn’t make it right.  Remember the old saying, “if everyone jumped off a bridge….”
